Sculpture and Installation
Tutors: Pip Dickens, Beth Harland & Emma Rose
My work is concerned with the exploration of form and medium specificity. The work involves the creation of the form itself. What begins as a, considerable, painting has become quite easily manipulated and varied in specificity to the extent of sculpture and installation. The tactile delicacy of the glues are subverted by the overpowering robustness of what is then created. This continuous playful blurring of boundaries connects individual inquiry throughout the work, however innovating ways of form, colour and composition are continuing to be developed in preference to a singular stylistic methodology.
I am interested in creating an unsure environment, a space that is insecure and imperfect like the rest of the world. A space where you can be surprised, where you
can get emotional and you can get angry, astonished, just looking at a filled room, without knowing why. Often the meaning of a visual mystery. An environment of self-made catastrophes, ambivalences, contradictions, escapes, hopes and utopias. Perhaps some place that reflects me as an artist but also a space which can reflect any other individual. Sometimes the artist is a part of a story, engaged in the installation. Sometimes the artist is just behind the story. What I see in my work is not absolute and everyone has their own interpretation.
