My work is devoted to the preservation and protection of the natural environment, stemming from research into the harmful impact of Human-activity. Artworks begin outdoors with the mapping of birds’ movement as they traverse the natural landscape and surrounding estuaries. This data is then brought back into the studio, and used as a platform with which to create paintings. The negative lines within the work function as a metaphor, they map birds' traces upon the environment (harmless weightlessness) in contrast to that of Humans (destructive and unsustainable).
All problems which we face in the 21st Century (including climate change, terrorism, animal extinction, drought, war and famine) propose for a negative future and they are all Human-provoked. It is time to turn our attention to resources and focus on protecting the Nonhuman inhabitants of planet Earth.
