“Your external reality is like a house of mirrors. It can only reflect back to you, what you are feeling inside of you.”
My work explores the boundaries of what constitutes a painted self portrait. By using angles and distortion in mirrors, I aim to create a painting through the reflected image itself. You, the observer, your reflection is the painting.
Using this concept, I explore my own self portrait by creating a series of paintings by merely looking at my reflection and repeatedly painting what I see over and over to create an abstracted self portrait of myself. The
actual reflection and how clear it is, is not important, nor is the final outcome of the paintings. The sense of feeling you get whilst looking at your distorted portrait is the central aim of my artwork. I want you as the viewer to feel lost within your own reflection, the way I feel lost within my own.
