Triggering a feeling of nostalgia, my work initially sparks an unusual sense of euphoria through the very sight of the vibrant translucence of the unique, often wobbly, substance. Bringing about the conscious thoughts between the consumption of their commodities, and the origin of the ingredients themselves, my artwork settles on mindfulness for the animal and acknowledgement of morality.
Being the granddaughter to a dairy farmer, and a niece of two others, this project holds very close to my heart. The work attempts to change people’s perspectives in a light-hearted way, and to re-associate the notions of consumerist society with the innocent animals, whose lives have been demanded to fuel such a “civilization”.
Working with the very essence of the animal itself, the work is shaped to fit the illusion of a glorified confectionary. Gelatine is just another obscene instance where society is not only willingly blindfolded to the workings of our own social-system, but are also disguising and manipulating their broken bodies into such a dissonant colourful, and joyful material.
"This choice you say is your right,
That you can eat just as you like.
And it’ s merely an opinion that I voice...
But your choice it kills so many,
This opinion kills not any."
