Painting & Installation

My work explores the power of objects and places; the spaces we construct and the intricate constructions we fill them with. I realise this subject matter through creating experiential environments, formed from painted trompe-l'oeil panels, that enfold the viewer in a fictional reality.
Figurative rendering of textures, intricate structures and crowded surfaces are important to my practice, for their ability to create absorbing realities - in any scale - and to expand the physical planes of the space. Figurative painting can be a powerful tool for displacing the viewer, creating space for realisations to happen.
Inviting the viewer to suspend their disbelief, these painted rooms allow an almost-familiar environment to become a liminal space. The painted environment becomes contained and containing, and facilitates realisations about the world outside the walls.
